THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE WE CAN GIVE YOU IS TO GET A SMOKE ALARM IF YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE ONE!!

Once an alarm is installed you need to check it regularly to make sure it is working properly. Many fire deaths and injuries happen each year because a battery was missing or needed replacing.

ONCE A WEEK
Test each alarm by pressing the test button and holding it until the alarm sounds

ONCE A YEAR
Change the battery in the alarm (unless it's a 10 year battery)

TWICE A YEAR
Open the alarm case and gently vacuum the inside the unit with a soft brush attachment, to remove dust from the sensor. If the alarm case doesn't open then vacuum over the vents on the outer casing.

Sick & Tired
of your smoke alarm going off when your cooking or you've just made the fire up?

If your alarm keeps going off it's only doing it's job. However maybe it's not quite in the correct place. Smoke from cooking or an open fire will set off your alarm, consider moving it to another location. NEVER disconnect the battery!!

Where do I put my Smoke Alarm?

The more smoke alarms around the house you have the safer you will be.

If you live on one level fit the smoke alarm in the hallway between the living and sleeping areas.

If you home has more that one level, fit one alarm at the bottom of the stairs and one on each landing.

The best place to install it is on the ceiling as near as possible to the centre of the room, hallway or landing. It should be at least 12 inches away from any light or wall.
